Officer Joe Brazil Rescues a Little Dog from a Tunnel
A hero doesn't always wear a cape; sometimes they wear a uniform. That's the case with Officer Joe Brazil, who serves the community of Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He is one of the most beloved and respected officers in the department, and for good reason. Officer Brazil goes above and beyond the call of duty to help those in need, and he doesn't hesitate to put himself in harm's way to protect his fellow citizens. This is the story of how Officer Brazil rescued a little dog from a tunnel and became a hero to many.
It all started on April 30, 2016, when a little dog named Cece got frightened by a passing car and ran off into a tunnel that a nearby brook flows through. She was stuck about 20–25 feet inside and was clinging to the side. Her owner, Michelle Perez, was beside herself with worry and had been searching for Cece since she went missing. She had only had the puppy for one day, and now she was lost.

Fortunately, Peggy Edwards, a kind-hearted woman who was walking in the area, saw the dog and knew she needed help. She was hesitant to rescue the dog herself because she didn't want to scare her deeper into the tunnel. So, she called the Woonsocket Police Department for assistance.
Within minutes, Officer Joe Brazil arrived on the scene and was more than willing to help. He knew that rescuing Cece would not be easy, but he was determined to do whatever it took to bring the frightened puppy to safety.
